Sanayee Development Organization (SDO) in partnership with Cooperation for Peace and Unity (CPAU) developed Peace Education as a complete curriculum for schools from 1st to 12th grade in 1999. Later in 1999, the curriculum was implemented in 34 Afghan immigrants’ schools of Peshawar – Pakistan that continued up to 2002 and 35000 students benefited from it.
In 2004, the Peace Education curriculum was revised based on the experiences and lessons learnt during its implementation, since 2003 another 30000 students benefited from Peace Education in Afghanistan.
The aim of Sanayee Development Organization is to integrate Peace Education into national education curriculum as an independent subject.
In 2016, SDO signed a MoU with Ministry of Education of Afghanistan that gave SDO the opportunity to implement Peace Education in four zones and 120 schools of Afghanistan for 8 months; Kabul, Balkh, Nangarhar and Kandahar.
According to the signed MoU, the pilot implementation of Peace Education would cover primary, intermediate and secondary schools students and an 8 days ToT workshop in Peace Education will be conducted for specific number of teachers that later will be teaching Peace Education in their classes.
The pilot implementation of Peace Education has been evaluated by a third party in two stages. SDO continued its humanitarian services through Peace Building & Literacy during 2017 and as a result 712 othe students joined SDO supported literacy courses 75% of whom have learnt as per assessments and the 25% still need to improve and learn more.
